Nestled in North Eastren Ohio, the small picturesque village of Lisbon is surrounded by a landscape of gently rolling ancient Applachian Mountains, sparkling streams and hardwood forests.  Originally named New Lisbon in 1803 when ohio entered the Union of States, Lisbon is the second oldest town in the state, celebrating its bicentennial in 2003.

Lisbon serves as the county seat for Columbiana County and has a rich history as being host to such political notables as U.S. President William Henry Harrison and James Garfield as well as being home to the family of President William Mckinley.

Situated in downtown Lisbon, the Steel Trolley Diner has a long history all its own.  In their heyday, there were over 6,000 original diners dotting the landscape of America, unique in that they served hot meals to hungry customers from all sections of the community, rich and poor.  Diners quickly became a favorite dining spot from coast to coast.  Sadly, over time, many of these beloved diners gave way to chain resturants and were destroyed.  Today fewer than 2,000 of them remain operation.

The Steel Trolley Diner was on the the last diners built by the Jerry O'Mahoney Company in 1954 in Elizabeth, New Jersy.  In 1955 it arrived in Salem, Ohio on two railroad flat cars after being purchased by Salem businessman Jim Aldom.  The diner was sold to Charles Forsythe in 1975 and four years later was purchased by Wayne Darling.  Darling then sold the diner to Lisbon native Shirley Davis.  Shirley moved the diner to its present site, located on the historic Lincoln Highway, America's first coast to coast highway, in May of 1979, and operated it until October 1992.  The steel Trolley Diner was then purchased by Lisbon residents Earle and Jacki Hersman.

As more and more original diners are lost to time, The Steel Trolley Diner is proud to have celebrated a historic milestone in 2004, our 50th anniversary.  So take a step back in time and help us continue to celebrate.  Relax and listen to the oldies music while you enjoy your stay.
